Kingdom Hearts 3 is one of the most highly anticipated games of 2019. Square Enix has created many popular series in its time that has captured the hearts of different fans. Kingdom Hearts is one such series that combines the iconic look of Final Fantasy and the whimsical magic of Disney. With characters that are well known such as Mickey Mouse, Donald, Duck, and Goofy and new characters like Sora, Kairi, and Riku this was a recipe that created quite a unique series.
Kingdom Hearts has a variety of characters in its arsenal. The amount of original, Disney and Final Fantasy characters is overwhelming. From the hero of the game Sora to the Disney mascot Mickey Mouse and even to Cloud from the iconic Final Fantasy VII game, Kingdom hearts does its best to leave a lasting impression.
The main protagonist, Sora is a fun-loving and protective character. The player usually follows him through the games. In Kingdom Hearts 3, he will be the primary playable character. He is known for his iconic crown necklace, spiky hair, and the legendary weapon he wields the Keyblade. Every Keyblade has its name, and Sora’s is known as the Kingdom Key, though it can be swapped out in-game. His sunny personality and disposition remind the player of the fact that he fights to protect the light against the darkness. He will face off against the main villain, Xehanort.
Xehanort is the main antagonist of the upcoming game. He has been the mastermind behind many of the conflicts that occurred to not just Sora but other heroes as well. His ambition is to recreate the Keyblade War to bring about Kingdom Hearts. He with his 13 Seekers of Darkness will face off against the seven Keyblade Wielders of Light in this final chapter of the Dark Seeker saga.
There is a multitude of characters some that may not be familiar but others that many Disney fans will be able to recognize. Sora is always with his two partners, Donald Duck, and Goofy and they follow the order of King Mickey and Master Yensid. Sora also interacts with various other figures such as Rapunzel from Tangled, Elsa from Frozen, Buzz and Woody from Toy Story and much more. Fans of Disney can have fun watching their favorite characters interact and fight against the darkness.
Disney is a big part of Kingdom Hearts. Every game has a multitude of Disney worlds, and that is part of the excitement of the games. With every trailer that was released for Kingdom hearts 3, fans waited to see which world we can explore next. While there are still more trailers to come, most if not all of the worlds have been confirmed for the upcoming game.
The Worlds Include:
San Fransokyo (Big Hero 6)
Kingdom of Corona (Tangled)
Mount Olympus (Hercules)
Toy Box (Toy Story)
Pirates of the Caribbean
100 Acre Wood (Winne the Pooh)
These worlds are the levels of the game. Sora will learn and grow in each world and will leave with new power and usually with a new Keyblade in hand. He will gain new friends and allies in these lands that will help him in his quest to defeat Master Xehanort. He will also call on allies from the past games, not just those that are in 3. Sora has the power to summon a character and utilize their gifts in battles. Be prepared to see familiar faces in fights such as Ariel from the Little Mermaid, Simba from Lion King, Stitch from Lilo and Stich and more. Though it can be a little surreal to see a Disney Princess defeat Heartless, that’s part of the fun for the series.
Kingdom Hearts 3 is the twelfth installment of the series. It picks up right after Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance. As stated before it is the twelfth game of the series and is the culmination of all prior games. Kingdom Hearts 3 is the conclusion of the Dark Seeker Saga, which means the series will continue after three but with a different antagonist.
Square Enix has released many titles with the complete set, so those who have not played the full series has the chance to before the game is released. Currently, the most up to date set one is Kingdom Hearts- The Story so Far. It includes six playable games and three movies, which means all of the cutscenes from those three games in one HD movie.
The games are meant to be played in the order that they were released in:
Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories
Kingdom Hearts II
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep
Kingdom Hearts Re: Coded
Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance
Kingdom Hearts Unchained X
Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep-A Fragmentary Passage
Kingdom Hearts Union X
Note: Unchained X and Union X are mobile games.
The series is extensive, and it would benefit you if you have not played through all the games to either play or research before you dive right into Kingdom Hearts 3. The game will assume you know the lore from previous installments and while they may have a feature within the game to brush up on the history (like Dream Drop Distance had) it is still better to go in with some prior knowledge. But don’t let that stop you from enjoying this game when it does release.
