Here Is Why Sony Will NOT Attend E3 2019 For The First Time In Over 20 Years

Sony not attending E3
Sony

E3, the world’s biggest video game event will be missing one of their most anticipated conferences. For the first time in 24 years, Sony Interactive Entertainment will not be attending E3.

Traditionally, Sony holds their PlayStation event the Monday before E3 begins. This event draws in thousands of fans and usually takes up acres of space in the LA convention center. In 2018, Sony even had spectators move between event rooms to create an immersive experience. However, this approach was met with controversy as Sony had four key titles for their conference. The company confirmed they would not be attending in a statement from Variety:

“As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community,” according to the statement. “PlayStation fans mean the world to us, and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019.”

Not Just E3

E3 is not the only major event that Sony has canceled in recent months. In September, the chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide Studios, Shawn Layden, stated that the company would not host the PlayStation Experience for 2019. Layden claimed that there are not enough games to showcase.

“Now that we have ‘Spiderman’ out the door, we’re looking down in 2019 to games like ‘Dreams’ and ‘Days Gone’ but we wouldn’t have enough to bring people altogether in some location in North America to have that event,” Layden stated ”We don’t want to set expectations really high and then not deliver on it.”

The lineup of games that are expected to come out in 2019 are the same games that were showcased in the 2018 Sony conference. Titles such as Last of Us Part II, Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima were part of the event and they do not have a release date, so fans can expect them in 2019.

Future Plans

PlayStation 4 new generation console
Sony

This news brings into question whether fans should look forward to the new generation of consoles. It has been five years since the release of the PlayStation 4 that took the video game world by storm. Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida confirmed that it was time to transcend into the next generation.

“At this point, what I can say is it’s necessary to have a [sic] next-generation hardware,” Yoshida stated.

Sony could be taking the time to work on the PlayStation 5, and fans will have to wait and see what the new generation will bring to the world of gaming.

Disney+: Everything You Need To Know About New Disney’s Streaming Service

Disney new streaming service
Disney

Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+ is the latest project that will bring new shows that expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Star Wars franchise. Disney is ending their partnership with the popular streaming site, Netflix and is opening their service in 2019. Disney+ will be the new home for all your favorite Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars movies and will add more content such as shows in the future.

Release Date and Monthly Fee

Now you may be wondering if you want to another monthly fee if you already have Netflix or Hulu. In this article, we will go over all Disney+ has to offer and why it would be worthwhile to get this new streaming service.

Disney is planning to release their service in 2019, but it will be near the end of it. There is also no word on how much Disney+ will cost, but CEO Bob Iger has this to say:

“We’ve given a lot of thought to pricing. I can’t get specific with you yet, because we haven’t determined it yet. It will be substantially below Netflix because we’ll have substantially less volume.”

Iger did explain that part of the reason it will cost less than Netflix is that in the beginning, their site will not have as much content as their competitor. Netflix did raise their monthly fee to $10.99 but there is still no concrete word of how much it will be exactly. However, Iger did mention that as the content on the platform increased so will the fee.

Shows and Movies

Marvel Cinematic Universe Loki new show
Marvel Entertainment

Disney + will not just have all of your Disney favorites but will include new TV shows and even reboots of past series. These new shows will consist of not only MCU content but also Star Wars and even older Disney franchises that were once on Disney Channel.

In September of 2018, Variety reported that Disney would focus on lesser-known MCU characters. Even though these characters are not ‘as big’ as say Iron-Man or Captain America they have their fan following. They plan to create shows centered around the Asgardian god of mischief and lies Loki and the mystifying red Avenger, the Scarlet Witch. Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen will reprise these roles.

On the Star Wars front, there will be a new season of the hit show Star Wars: The Clone Wars that had initially been on Cartoon Network. There will also be a TV series that is a prequel to Rogue One, and Diego Luna will reprise his role as Cassian Andor. There is also word of another Star Wars television show that will be called The Mandalorian. Jon Favreau will develop it.

Monsters inc new show sully mike
Pixar

Disney+ will also develop a reboot of the favorite Disney Channel hit movie High School Musical. However, the series will not be a movie but rather a television series that explores a high school theater group putting on a production of High School Musical. They are also in talks of creating a Muppets television series as well. The service will provide another television show that will set in the world of Monsters Inc.

Disney isn’t pulling any punches with their new streaming service. They are providing a lot of content for fans of every franchise. Whether you are a Star Wars, MCU, Pixar, or a Disney fan, in general, this service may be worth your while.

Stan Lee Dead: Full Story & Must-See Details

Marvel’s legend Stan Lee dies at age 95. Well-known for his comic book writing, editing, publishing, acting, and cameos he was an icon in pop culture. People of all ages come together to give their condolences and revel in the legacy of the man who changed the entertainment world.

Born on December 28, 1922, in New York, New York to Jack Lieber and Celia (Solomon) Lieber. He is survived by daughter Joan Celia Lee. His wife, Joan Clayton Boocock Lee passed away in 2017 at aged 95.

In the 1960s, Lee worked alongside writers and artists Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko. The three men took initiative in the comic book industry that was slowly dying out due to bland characters and plots which resulted in poor sales. Lee wrote and directed many beloved comic book heroes and teams we know today such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, Fantastic Four and more.

Due to the ingenuity of Lee, Kirby, and Ditko they created vibrant characters that were different from other superheroes of the time. They created heroes with real-world problems and flaws. These heroes were characters that people could relate to and draw inspiration. It was a message that resonates to this very day.

The Fantastic Four was the first superhero team that Lee created. Afterward, he would continue his successful trend and lend a hand in creating iconic comic book heroes such as The Incredible Hulk, Thor, the X-Men and so on. Lee laid the foundation for the company to continue to grow. In 1972, Lee became Marvel’s publisher, and he created storylines that are well-known to this day. Lee pushed the boundaries of what comics could discuss and even referenced political and social issues of his time. A man of integrity he did his best to create stories that people would not only enjoy but learn from.

In 2001, Lee created POW! Entertainment. It was a company that created television shows and movies based on superheroes. Lee did his best to expand the Marvel brand and expose his characters not just in comic books but other forms of media as well. In the past two decades, Lee earned an incredible 120 production credits with countless other cameos and writing credits. Lee had become an icon in comic books and continued to leave his mark years after leaving the publishing side of Marvel. His legacy will live on in his stories and his characters.

Trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

The first trailer for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom dropped last night during the Thursday Night Football game. It is the sequel to Jurassic World and the next segment in the Jurassic Park franchise.

It sounds like Chris Pratt’s character, Owen Grady, finds out from his ex gf, Claire (Bryce Dallas Howard), that a volcano is about to wipe out life for Isla Nublar, the island that housed both Jurassic Park and Jurassic World. Obviously good guy Owen decides to go help the “poor” dinosaurs and specifically his BFF Blue. We also see a glimpse of Dr. Henry Wu (BD Wong), who was instrumental in InGen’s initial cloning back in JP1 and then turned a little more sinister when working for Masrani creating customized dinosaurs for Jurassic World. I was happy to see that Jeff Goldblum is back, even though it kinda sounds like he’s testifying against saving the dinosaurs. Unfortunately, the trailer didn’t show that he had much of a role beyond the trial and I doubt he makes the journey to the island.

Something I always look forward to the most is to see the new type of T-rex/Raptor-caliber dinosaur that they decide to introduce. Here’s a look back at the notables from the old flicks:

Jurassic Park: the T-Rex, slight glimpse of raptor when it eats that cow

Lost World: Raptors, Duo T-rex’s

Jurassic Park 3: Spinosaurus, Pteranodon

Jurassic World: Indominus rex, “Domesticated” Raptors, Mosasaurus

This time around we see…. Drum roll please…: the Baryonyx. At first glance it looks like a smaller T-Rex that has an enormous  bite and is probably most similar to the Spinosaurus from JP3. We also see a dinosaur called a Carnotaurus, which again is much smaller than a T-Rex BUT it has horns and looks pretty intimidating.

The plot reminds me a lot of ‘The Lost World’ in the sense that the island was deserted except for the dinosaurs and now they’re going back for a specific mission with a large force of mercenaries and scientists. While I’m pumped to see this one, I don’t know if I’m AS excited for the “race against the clock” premise of this movie as I am for the traditional: “let’s go to a ‘safe’ fun park and ‘uh oh’ we underestimated the dinosaurs (again)”. Overall, the movie seems very action packed and suspenseful and it will probably be a no-brainer, IMO, to go see this bad boy in theaters come June 2018.

Justice League: A Look at the Numbers

Justice League 2

With the Justice League out I thought I’d take a look at how it has been received by the critics and how it compares to the other DC and Marvel movies that have come out lately. Also since I’m a huge fan of the Christopher Nolan Batman movies I thought I’d also throw those in for comparison purposes. As of November 27th 2017, here are their Rotten Tomato scores.

DC Rotten Tomatoes

Justice League, as with many other DC movies, has a watchable audience score while receiving a pretty poor rating from critics. If you look at the Marvel Movies in comparison, you see a different story:

Marvel Rotten Tomatoes

So why the big difference? With the exception of the Wonder Woman, Why have DC movies received such poor critic scores compared to Marvel Movies lately? I think a lot has to do with the fact that superhero movies come out so regularly now so it’s no longer a sure thing that everyone will go see and likely love the ‘new summer blockbuster superhero movie’ since we now have many that come out each year. I’m in no way complaining, but I would say that DC needs to step up their game and spend more time with plot/character development and less time landing big actors/actresses.

Possible V For Vendetta TV Series In The Works

Fans of the graphic novel will be happy to hear that there is a possible television series in the works that will be based on Alan Moore and David Lloyd’s 1989 collaboration V For Vendetta.  According to Bleeding Cool the project is currently in the developmental stages by British T.V. network Channel 4 (Black Mirror, Misfits, Humans, and Ultraviolet).

The series will expand on the original plot line where V, a masked vigilante hellbent on taking down a tyrannical government, will stop at nothing short of terroristic violence to eradicate the power and influence of London’s Secret Police.

James McTeigue’s 2005 feature film that starred Natalie Portman as Evey and Hugo Weaving as V, although viewed by some as a cult classic, was not generally well received by the fanbase of the more intricate comic.

Details in regards to writers, actors, production or release dates for the television series have not been released but perhaps this version, if it ever indeed happens, will be capable of catering to both sides of the fanbase.

Superman, New Era, And A Justice League Spoiler

The return of Superman to the Justice League is something every fan of the series is looking forward to but has a merchandising error just spoiled the manner in which we see his return?

SuperHeroStuff.com lists a “Superman Black Armor Justice League 39Thirty Fitted Hat” by New Era and their product description may reveal a little too much.

*SPOILER ALERT* If you don’t want to know anything further you should probably quit here.  The official description reads as follows:

“Our Superman Black Armor Justice League 39Thirty Fitted Hat is based on Superman’s costume post-death: A black variation of the Superman suit adorned during his time in the regeneration matrix, a Kryptonian chamber that reversed the previously lethal effects of his protracted punch-em-up with Doomsday.”

Not much left to the imagination with that one. Questions still arise as to who may have placed The Man Of Steel into the Kryptonian chamber as well as the nature of his return. But one question seems to have been definitely answered.  Superman is back.

From 007 To Mr. Sinister?

The rumor mill is churning yet again and with it come whispers that FOX is allegedly considering Daniel Craig to play the role of Mr. Sinister in their upcoming movie production of Gambit.

The news trickles in from Splash Report that Nathaniel Essex, a.k.a. Mr. Sinister, will be the film’s feature villain and that Craig’s name has been thrown around in regards to potential choices.

Whether or not the Bond actor is as open to the possibility of appearing in the film still remains to be seen.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine saw Taylor Kitsch as the right fit for the role of Gambit but rumors suggest that in the upcoming feature film Channing Tatum may get the nod.  Kitsch was quoted as saying, “If he does it, good on him,” telling the Chicago Tribune.  “He’ll kill it.  It’s such a cool character.”

Whichever way FOX decides to go in regards to casting fans will still have to wait until late 2018, possibly even sometime in 2019 for the film’s debut.

“Glass” Has Officially Begun Production

M. Night Shyamalan has announced officially through Twitter that production on the film Glass has finally begun.

A follow up to his 2000 release Unbreakable that starred Bruce Willis as David Dunn and Samuel L. Jackson as the fragile Elijah Prince, or Mr. Glass.  The plot line of the film is still quite uncertain but what has been revealed in typical Shyamalan fashion is that Glass will be the conclusion of the trilogy with Unbreakable as the first installment and the James McAvoy thriller Split being the second.

It is expected that the story will follow Willis’ character Dunn as he attempts to track down The Beast (McAvoy) after his killing spree in Split. Meanwhile Mr. Glass is somehow pulling the strings that will eventually unite the trio in what will hopefully be an epic showdown of super proportions.

Glass is scheduled for release in January 2019.

17 years in the making.
